The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is considered by many to be the best alternative route to the usual Inca Trail. This magnificent trail combines adventure and truly versatile landscapes: from Andean landscapes covered by snow to the hot tropical jungle. Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa (Humantay Lagoon)

Then, the trip will continue to Soraypampa (the starting point of our hike to Humantay Lake) and where we will spend the night in the domes.

We will hike for 2 hours (5 km.) to the dazzling Humantay Lagoon (4,221 m.a.s.l.). This true natural wonder is one of the most beautiful places in South America due to the turquoise color of its waters that also reflect the glaciers of the sacred mountain of Humantay.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Abra Salkantay - Huayracmachay - Challhuay

This day we start early at 5:00 am. Then, we quickly pack up, enjoy our breakfast and immediately start walking to the highest point of the Salkantay trail (4620 masl.). The distance is 7 km that we should complete in 4 hours. During the ascent through the rocky valley, we can observe the magnificent Salkantay peak and we can even see chinchillas on the trail (6217 masl.). Once we reach the top of the trail, we will enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and the imposing snow-capped peaks of Salkantay, Humantay and Pumasillo. We then continue our hike for 5km. downhill on the snake trail along a rocky and gravel road to reach Huayracmachay, our lunch spot. In the afternoon we will reach the upper part of the rainforest, also called "cloud forest". We will walk 10 km in 6 hours until we reach Challhuay (2900 masl.) our base camp.

Day 3 Challhuay - Lucmabamba - Llactapata

Around 6:00 am. we have breakfast and then we take the mobility to take to Lucmabamba where we will do the Route of Coffee. Afterwards we continue the walk for approximately 3 hours until arrive to the Arqueologic center of Llaqtapata where we will have an incredible and unique view of the Park Archaeological site of Machu Picchu (2,430 m), Likewise we will pass the night at the Llactapata lodge and located in front of the Maravilla of the world.

Day 4 Llactapata - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu

On our penultimate day, we woke up at 6:00 am to drink a delicious breakfast and begin the descent for 2.5 hour descent to reach the Hydroelectric Plant (1,890 meters above sea level).We continue the walk along the path of the train tracks, we will arrive to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,020 masl.) for approximately 3 hours. Arriving at the town of Aguas Calientes, we have a brunch and then we will go by bus to go to our final destination "Machu Picchu, Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity", it will be the most appreciated and unforgettable of our entire hike.We will report to the Machu Picchu Control and start our guided tour, for more than two hours we will explore the most important buildings and temples of this city, the architecture of the Incas is really incredible and unimaginable as amazing! Sit down for sure that it will be the best experience ever, you will feel the real sensation of finding yourself. After enjoying this magical citadel you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo. This journey takes 2 hours. In Ollantaytambo we will board a bus that will take us back to Cusco.
